We relate to Bollywood a lot whether it’s in terms of situations or characters. While every character is special in its way, one stands out amongst all. That is of a mother.
Despite a lot of experiments and shade, a mother’s character is always of care, respect, nurture, and love in Bollywood. From their motherly love to their crazy dramas, they provided us with every ingredient of perfect moms.
So here we are going to talk about 11 reel – life mothers that we love to love :
One-woman army Kind
The character of Nargis in the movie Mother India broke all stereotypes in society and around Indian mothers. All thanks to the climax scene. From looking after two children all by herself to harvesting on the farm, the audience was introduced to the life of a single mother for the first time. The movie showed what all difficulties she faced.
Avenging Kind
Sridevi went against the system to get justice for her daughter in the film Mom. Hell hath no fury like a mother who is avenging her child. Looked so fragile from outside but strong from inside. Her well-executed plan proved that she was made of sterner stuff than you can ever imagine. From hiring a detective to taking actions herself she did whatever she could.
Supportive Kind
A regular Bollywood movie –Girl falls in love with a boy. Father disapproves. The mother of the girl supports her and suggests she run away. Farida Jalal was that mother in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
Whereas most of the time she has played the role of a bubbly mother but here for the first time she did a serious role. She supported her daughter to get out of an impending arranged marriage set up by her father and be with the one she loves.
Superheroic Kind
We know that all mothers are superheroes in some way but here we are talking about real superpowers. Jaya Bachchan as Nandini Raichand was telepathic. She always knew when her eldest son was around. Not because she heard the sound of a helicopter but also when she later found him in the mall. I wish we had skills like those.
Sacrificable Kind
Although Nirupa Roy has played the role of a mother in several movies, but one cannot miss her in Deewar. After all, it is her presence that makes “ Mera pass maa hai ” dialogue so iconic. She was not just a mother who loved her sons equally but was also torn apart by their differences. She gave every sacrifice necessary to make their lives better.
Sophisticated Kind
The sophisticated kind, Ratna Pathak in Khubsoorat. The one who will encourage her children to follow their passion and will always want them to display maturity. Those children will be given journals to write and not coloring books. There was some kind of aura in her character that you couldn’t ignore.
Chill – Pill Kind
Every time one thinks about ‘cool’ and ‘open-minded’, one can’t help but think about Vidya Balan’s character “ Tara Shinde” in Mission Mangal. She believed in the liberty of her children while doing the typical mommy things by keeping a track of their whereabouts. She loved her family and job equally and maintained a perfect balance between them.
Proud of my kid Kind
Although the movie is based on the real-life incident of a national hero, Neerja Bhanot. Shabana Azmi brought to life the grief and bravery of Neerja’s mother Rama Bhanot. Her speech in the movie can make even the tough – hearted cry. All the while she was proud of her daughter and supported her in whatever she did.
Maa da ladla Kind
The most loved character of hers. Playing the role of a typical Punjabi mom in Bollywood’s first-ever bromance comedy, Dostana. Kirron Kher did complete justice to it. To watch a mother digest the fact that her son is living with his boyfriend, and then be cool about it, made the audience go “wow!.”
Sweet like sugar Kind
Reema Lagoo played the character of a typical “maa” in the movie Hum Saath Saath Hain. The movie was not only applauded for the wonderful cast, but also a step-mother’s genuine love for her on-screen son, MohnishBehl. She was a complete sweetheart in the movie.
Breaking taboo Kind
Tabu played a mother to our very talented Shahid Kapoor in Haider. Not only did she play the role of a mother troubled by her son’s mental plight, but she also brought out the taboo Oedipal side to their relationship with a flair. Kudos to her!
