T he ongoing Coronavirus pandemic is affecting film industries all over the world. In the wake of recent Coronavirus outbreak, Bollywood filmmakers are taking various measures and are postponing the release dates of their upcoming films.

While some production houses have already confirmed the new release dates, others are waiting to see how the pandemic shapes out.

The release of Rohit Shetty ’s much-awaited action thriller Sooryavanshi, starring Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar with extended cameos by Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh, has been postponed to an unconfirmed date.

Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar

The constantly-pushed “Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar” yet again stays delayed. The film was scheduled to release on the 20th of March. This is Parineeti and Arjun’s third collaboration.

‘83

The release of 83, director Kabir Khan's sports biopic about India's World Cup-winning cricket team, starring real-life superstar couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone . The film was to premiere on 10 April.

The makers released a statement confirming that the movie will not release on the 10th of April like it was scheduled to. The new release date is still unknown.

Salman Khan’s filming of Radhe, directed by Prabhu Deva, is currently on hold. The filming was slated to take place in Azerbaijan but the team has decided to stay put. Radhe was to be an Eid release but it is likely to be postponed and after many years, we could be looking at a Bhai-free festival.

Jersey

Actor Shahid Kapoor has announced that he has canceled the filming of his sports drama Jersey in which he plays a failed cricketer. The movie is scheduled to release in August and stands to be pushed.

Laal Singh Chaddha

With a big chunk of the movie's shoot already done with, Laal Singh Chaddha might not be majorly affected as filming is suspended. It might release on Christmas 2020, as scheduled.

The production house announced that after careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace, the release of "No Time to Die" will be postponed until November 2020.

A Quiet Place Part II

Director John Krasinski announced on Instagram that the horror sequel's March theatrical release would be delayed amid the growing spread of the coronavirus around the globe. Paramount has now dated the film for release on Sept. 4.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

It was one of the first films delayed as part of the coronavirus, with pushing its March release to Aug. 7. But as the shutdown continued, Sony juggled its release late so that the family film will now open Jan. 15, 2021.

The Lovebirds

Paramount postponed the April 3 theatrical release of the romantic comedy “The Lovebirds" starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani. Netflix then acquired the film from Paramount and will release it at a date to be announced.

Blue Story

Paramount delayed the controversial UK gang film "Blue Story," which was set for release on March 20. A future release date has not been announced.

Mulan

Disney postponed the release of its blockbuster, live-action remake of the animated film "Mulan" from March 27 to now open on July 24. Mulan was pulled from theaters just before it was due to be released.

The postponement came less than two weeks before it was supposed to open. It was late enough that some viewers and critics saw the film at preview screenings, calling the new Mulan "majestic" and "thrilling."

Black Widow

"Black Widow" was meant to open on May 1 , but will now shift back to the slot previously occupied by "The Eternals" on Nov. 6 . “Eternals” is moving to February 12, 2021.

Given the speculation that the lockdown will be extended, producers are already anticipating major changes to the way Bollywood will operate. Trade experts have suggested that the postponed films will suffer losses when they eventually release, but 83 director Kabir Khan is optimistic. He predicts that the "industry, as a whole, is going to slide by in about four months".

It is a responsible move to time the movie release at a later date. The makers also remark that this collective call is taken with the best interest of the audiences in mind. This decision is in compliance with the guidelines prescribed by the Government of India and the World Health Organisation to control the pandemic.
