People who use social media less are generally happier overall
Researchers have found that those who don’t use social media are on the whole happier than those who do because they don’t constantly compare themselves with their colleagues and friends. Depression is linked to excessive social media use, because of social comparison theory. Heavy social media use is also commonly associated with a lack of mental health.
We often forget that all that matters are our real lives, our relationships, our experiences, and our feelings and not the endless search for popularity online.
Social media is so popular these days that it is almost like having a drug addiction. If you think about it, what would you do on your phone when you’re bored if you didn’t have apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.? It is so important now that it literally has the power to destroy relationships.
In reality, it doesn’t really matter what all the research says, but, it matters what you think and feel. If you ever feel that you need social media to validate the relationship you are in, perhaps the person you are with is wrong for you.
