Paranormal events are purported phenomena described in popular culture, folk, and other non-scientific bodies of knowledge, whose existence within these contexts is described as beyond normal experience or scientific explanation.
If you believe in ghosts, you’re not alone. Cultures all around the world believe in spirits that survive death to live in another realm. In fact, ghosts are among the most widely believed of paranormal phenomenon.
The idea that the dead remain with us in spirit is an ancient one, appearing in countless stories, People have tried to communicate with spirits for ages.
The science and logic of ghosts
One difficulty in scientifically evaluating ghosts is that a surprisingly wide variety of phenomena are attributed to ghosts, from a door closing on its own, to missing keys, to a cold area in a hallway, to a vision of a dead relative. Sociologists Dennis and Michele Waskul interviewed ghost experiencers and they found that “many participants were not sure that they had encountered a ghost and remained uncertain that such phenomena were even possible, simply because they did not see something that approximated the conventional image of a ‘ghost.’ Instead, many of our respondents were simply convinced that they had experienced something inexplicable, extraordinary or mysterious.”
Why many people believe?
Personal experience is one thing, but scientific evidence is another matter. Part of the difficulty in investigating ghosts is that there is not one universally agreed-upon definition of what a ghost is. Some believe that they are spirits of the dead who for whatever reason get “lost” on their way to The Other Side; others claim that ghosts are instead telepathic entities projected into the world from our minds.
Most people who believe in ghosts do so because of some personal experience; they grew up in a home where the existence of (friendly) spirits was taken for granted, for example, or they had some unnerving experience on a ghost tour or local haunt. However, many people believe that support for the existence of ghosts can be found in no less a hard science than modern physics.
Do Paranormal Phenomena Exist?
Mention mind reading, ghosts, premonitions, the bending of spoons through thought or other supposed mysteries of the paranormal, and most scientists will say there are no such things.
Polls show that about half of Americans believe in paranormal phenomena. ”For some reason, a lot of people want it to be so. ”If you can do things with your mind, then the universe is paying attention to you, and that’s important to a lot of people. ”
Ghosts, spirits, paranormal – these words have accompanied the existence of men since time unknown. The existence of paranormal elements have been felt by many, supported by many more but no one has been able to find enough evidence to prove it. Some have refuted the idea, some have criticized those who believe in the presence of spirits.
Though it has not yet been possible to prove their existence, we bring you five real life documented paranormal experiences that will make you think twice:
-
Annabelle:
Renowned paranormal investigators Edward and Lorraine Warren had procured a Raggedy Doll from two youths that they had claimed to have been possessed by the spirit of Annabelle Higgins in 1970. The Warrens took the doll and after investigating it, told the victims that the doll was “being manipulated by an inhuman presence”. The 2014 film Annabelle was inspired by this incident.
-
Amityville:
The Warrens shot to fame with this case. In 1976, New York-based couple George and Kathy Lutz claimed that their house Amityville – was haunted by a violent demon spirit. The influence was so intense that it drove the couple out of the place. Danny Lutz, George and Kathy’s son, currently lives there. When asked about the horrors he faced as a kid there, Danny said, “When I went in there, there was probably 400 or 500 flies … The entire family is standing there watching the garage door slam up and slam down and the dog is hanging himself.”
-
Anne Boleyn:
On the death anniversary of Anne Boleyn, her headless ghost manifests itself at Blickling Hall in Norfolk. Some also say that her ghost often appears at the Tower of London, where she was executed in 1536. In 1993, a guard saw her ghost at the tower and charged towards her with his bayonet but went right through her. In 1817, by seeing her ghost, another tower guard died due to heart attack.

Believe it or not, even when dealing with the mysterious realm of ghosts, aliens and creatures, there are some things we can fairly confidently label as false. So, to clear up incorrect assumptions about the unexplained, let’s take a look at some Paranormal Myths.
