Happy Couples Post Less About Their Relationship On Social Media

S ocial media has set a new trend, if every moment from your life and relationship is not posted on Facebook, Instagram, or any other social networking site, then it never happened.

Some people just can’t stop flaunting all the good things in their lives . And one particular thing they simply can’t stop showing off online is their relationship status. It might seem silly or weird to those who don’t post every detail about their lives on social media.

But, Is it really necessary to show off one’s relationship status?

I believe many will agree that this is cheesy, boring, and irritating for most of us. The truth is that oversharing information about your love life doesn’t exactly indicate that you’re really happy in your relationship.

Genuinely happy couples don't have to boast about it. They hardly discuss their relationship on social media. Here are a few reasons for the same:

Live in the here and now

When two people are in a relationship and choose to keep it off social media it allows for the couple to completely enjoy the time they are spending together. Being in this mindset, the couples know they don’t have anything to prove to anyone but to each other. They tend to be happier and much more secure with themselves and with each other.

It’s not that happy couples never take photos or check their social media feeds, but their lives are already making them so happy that they have no need to be distracted by it.

Keep others out of your business

Have you ever been in the presence of a couple that's fighting?

It's awkward, of course. Now imagine that fight playing out for the whole world to see on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or YouTube?

When someone gets mad at their significant other or has a problem, they use their status to broadcast the problem for everyone. This opens the gates to let people in on your business.

Revealing all your personal problems to everyone you know on social media is about the least effective method available for solving your issues. It’s only going to make things worse in your relationship.

There's no need to air your dirty laundry to all of your friends, family, co-workers, or even clients.

Pressures of social media

Some people can’t seem to wake up and do anything before posting about their personal life.

Everyone knows that not every relationship is always rainbows and butterflies. As you and your partner experience life together you are certainly going to have disagreements and strains on your relationship.

When two people come together in a relationship, it is special and it is sacred. Do your best to keep your relationship private. Put your phone away and enjoy the time you have with them.

Happy relationship is important

The joy is to be found in being together, not in posting about being together. Constantly posting on social media has little appeal.

Genuinely happy couples don’t feel the need for other people to think they’re happy in their relationship. They don’t bother to post long romantic or emotional statuses about how happy they are with their partner or pictures of their romantic dates.

No one has to prove anything to anyone

When you’re genuinely happy with your partner, you don’t feel the need to post “evidence of your happiness” on social media. There are many people who post too much about their love life not because they are gushing with happiness but because they want to impress others or sometimes even to make their ex-partner jealous.

People who are in a truly happy relationship are together because they want to be, and they couldn’t care less whether their page says "in a relationship" or not.

Don’t seek other people’s validation

When you know that you are accepted, respected, and valued by your partner, you don’t seek this validation externally. To put it simply, you don’t feel the constant need to post statuses and photos about your love life on your Facebook or Instagram profile.

You feel happy, fulfilled, and accepted when you’re with your significant other, not when you brag about it on social media.

Convincing others to convince themselves

When two people constantly confess their love for each other, or share pictures of themselves doing fun and romantic activities.

They are trying to convince everyone else that they're in a happy relationship, which is a way to trick themselves into thinking they're in a happy relationship.

Frequent posting leads to be psychopathic and narcissistic

In short, the more often you post or engage on social media, the more likely you are to be either narcissistic or, even worse, psychopathic. According to professor Brad Bushman of Ohio State University,

"Narcissists are very bad relationship partners".

Couples who post a lot tend to be insecure

After surveying more than 100 couples, researchers have found those who posted more frequently on social media about their partner feel insecure in their relationship.

People who use social media less are generally happier overall

Researchers have found that those who don’t use social media are on the whole happier than those who do because they don’t constantly compare themselves with their colleagues and friends. Depression is linked to excessive social media use , because of social comparison theory. Heavy social media use is also commonly associated with a lack of mental health.

We often forget that all that matters are our real lives, our relationships, our experiences, and our feelings and not the endless search for popularity online.

Social media is so popular these days that it is almost like having a drug addiction . If you think about it, what would you do on your phone when you’re bored if you didn’t have apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.? It is so important now that it literally has the power to destroy relationships.

In reality, it doesn't really matter what all the research says, but, it matters what you think and feel. If you ever feel that you need social media to validate the relationship you are in, perhaps the person you are with is wrong for you.
